Before the first wear
Check the garment inside and out. Remove packaging, inspect every seam, and confirm that the neck and arm openings sit without pressure. Let your dog sniff the item, introduce it for a short calm session, and reward relaxed behavior. Clothing is optional enrichment, never something a dog should be forced to tolerate.
Washing
Fasten any closures, turn the piece inside out, and machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with similar colors. Use a mild detergent and skip bleach, fabric softener, scent boosters, and dryer sheets. For a small spot, rinse promptly and blot rather than scrubbing the knit out of shape.
Drying and storage
Reshape while damp and air dry flat or on a broad hanger. High heat can shrink cotton-rich fabric and tire elastic binding. Store completely dry, away from direct sun and determined chewers. Before each use, look for loosened thread, stretched openings, or damage that could catch a paw.
Common-sense safety
Supervise wear, especially during the first session. Remove apparel before crating unless the crate setup and garment have been assessed by a qualified professional. Take it off during rough play, swimming, overheating, or any sign of stress. Apparel is not a restraint, harness, flotation device, or substitute for weather-appropriate care.
